Depends on what your looking at when calculating disc space.

I find that if your just going by the number on the bottom of the finder frame that it can be in error some times and will not adjust to moved files.

Using secure empty trash will usually reset the counter to the correct number or restarting finder will correct the number.

Also checking activity monitor in utilitys and set it to disk space should give you an accurate count.
